Well it's that time again. As we enter spring, I know many of you are preparing your boats for an early launch.
Let's make it another banner year! A grateful thanks to all for your participation and continued support.
We have a new Commodore this year, Robert D. Cummings & First Lady Nancy. Bob and Nancy have some energetic ideas for '08-'09. Bob is a gifted administrator, as is Nancy. I'm looking forward to Bob's tour and your 100% support of Bob's direction for LVYC.
We have some nice activities planned for the '08 season. Please take a moment to review our schedule of events. We are open for additional suggestions and ideas.
first scheduled event is our Opening Day/Annual Wine and Cheese
Party on May 24.
Welcome Aboard New Members John Christesen, Don Christesen, Paul Cunningham, Tom & Jean Curtis, John & Gwen Dohanicz, Jeffrey & Gianna Moore, and Jason Rehberg.
Our Opening Day/Wine & Cheese with 38 members and friends in attendance excelled previous years with the array of special dishes, deserts, erotic beverages' and renewed friendships. We also had a special guest attend our Opening festivities, the Princess of The Delaware River Rats (DRYL) Kristin, the V/C and F/C. It was an unexpected visit, and the club was not prepared to honor the Princess properly. The group enjoyed our hospitality, and a bracelet gift was forwarded to Princess Kristin as a costumery gesture and honorarium to a beautiful and dedicated participant in the DRYL/CBYCA Princess pageant(s).
Beach Wheels/Able West (June 21) Congrats to Commodore Bob, first Lady Nancy, VP Russ Mehalick, V/C Bob Powell and the crew of the Bounty for providing 'physical' support (our 9th year) for this charitable endeavor. Many thanks to our members for their financial support. Words cannot express your generosity for this function, and our other children causes. A great team!
Commodore Fluke Tournament (June 27) Not the expected turn out; we had 11 participants. But it was a fun sunny/humid day. Bill caught a 4" fluke. Lyle Cark won with a 23.5" fluke; with second prize to Bob Powell 23.0". A BBQ followed with awards.
4th of July BBQ/July 12th Our 4th celebration was a grand success with 28 members and friends in attendance. The festivities were held at the Morgen residence. Commodore Bob & First Lady Nancy, Rita & Bill were our chefs, hosts, and coordinators. The array of foods included appetizers (prepared by Nancy), quarter pound dogs, 8oz burgers, chicken, spear ribs, salads, desserts, etc.
The 'Crew of the Bounty', i.e., I/P/C Russ Mehalick, V/C Bob Powell, Loraine and Brett, did a superb job with decorations, setups, and overall 'flow' supervision of activities.
A special thanks to all that brought a dessert and homemade treat. Words cannot express our appreciation for your thoughtfulness. A grateful thanks to all that Rita helped with the cleanups.
With sincere appreciation and gratitude, the Officers wish to thank you for your continued friendship, support, and participation. Everyone did a great job making this another banner success.
Welcome aboard new members Edward & Nina Robinson (Leaming's Marina).
Our next scheduled event is our Crab contest, scheduled for Saturday, August 9. Flyers are in the mail. Lets make this another grand event.
Eleven members participated in our Crab Contest of August 9. Small turnout, but it was a fun day for all. We had two winners for first prize, Bill Morgen & Joe Hayman with 6 1/8 point crabs. Second prize was Lyle Clark with 5 11/16. Afterwards, we indulged in hoagies, shrimp, cheeses, snacks, and cocktails. Many thanks to the crew of The Bounty, and Bill Morgen ll for the assortment of food and drinks. Nice touch guys!
Labor Day BBQ, August 30. Because of lack of participation, the Officers regret to advise that the LDBBQ has been cancelled. It's a holiday weekend, and many members want to celebrate the closing of the season with their families. Perhaps next year we call all agree on a convenient date.
A private BBQ was held at the Morgen residence, attended by 15 members. Many thanks to all for your participation, separate dishes, and delicious desserts!
Surf Fishing with the 'Crew of the Bounty will be held on Sunday, September 21 (LBI).
What a beautiful day. Eighteen friends and members were in attendance. The winds and undertow were strong, but several fish were caught. The 'Crew of the Bounty' hosted a BBQ with quarter pound dogs, fresh veggies, appetizers, and drinks (at their expense). A grateful thanks to Russ and his friends for their kind hospitality and friendship.
Year End Dinner, Saturday, October 4. Our Year End dinner will be held at the Bayberry Inn, Ship Bottom, Long Beach Island, NJ at 3:00 P.M.
Twenty one members attended our Year End Dinner. We had the entire restaurant to ourselves as normal business hours start a 5:00 P.M. The bar was open at 3, the service prompt and courteous; there were seconds between reordering of drinks (no waiting). The food was excellent (order from the menu); the service exceptional! Many thanks to the management and staff of The Bayberry Inn for providing a great meal, 'outstanding' service and friendship. A special acknowledgement to Karen, Al, Cory, and our servers for making our YED a memorable occasion. We'll see you at the Christmas Brunch on December 14th.
As we conclude the season preparing our boats for winter, recommendations for next years events/scheduling will be appreciated over the Fall & Winter layover. Please email the Commodore or Bill Morgen with your thoughts.
