Club news

                              2004              by Bill Morgen

Greetings. Hope everyone had a grand holiday. We have a new slate of Officers for the
'04-'05 term. Congrats to Commodore Russ Mehalick, V/C Bob Cummings, V/C W/S
Bob Gosser, Jr., R/C Bob Powell, F/C Tom Leaming, P/C Lyle Clark, Secretary Jack
Carini, and Treasurer Robert Grossman. See 'Officer's Page' for non-elective appoint-
 ments and email addresses.

We concluded another great year with our Year End Dinner/Installation of Officer's at
the Thirsty Mallard in October. The food and service was excellent! Forty two members
attended. The Honorable Mayor Daniel Van Pelt of Ocean Township administered the
oath of office to each of the elected-Officers. It was a grand ceremony that lasted into
the late evening. Many thanks to Evy & Bob Knowles for arranging for the Mayor's
presence. It was a great honor!

A Special Thank You to Rita, Bob & Nancy Cummings; the Mehalick/Powell team, and
Leaming's Marina for their help and support in making our social activities possible.

By now every member should have received a copy of our 'Tentative Schedule'. For
those of you that responded to a conflict or suggestion, thank you. Changes have been
made to accommodate your calendar. Updates will be listed on our 'Schedule Page'.

 02/15 General Meeting/Lunch @ Thirsty Mallard

17 members attended. Commodore Mehalick expressed his views on social events and
requested input from the members as to "what they would like to do". Several events
were discussed; three were incorporated into the current schedule, with the remaining
pending "additional information". It was an informative meeting enjoyed by all.

 02/21 DRYL Banquet

300 boaters were in attendance. I want to thank our Officers for attending. It's an honor
to President Robert Bocock lll of the DRYL, and a credit to LVYC. We all had a great
time. Everyone was 'tux'd' out, with the exception of yours truly. The new tux didn't fit!

 05/07 'LVYC Charity Golf Classic'

We had another great tournament with 82 players in attendance. Congrats to Chairman
Jack Carini, our sponsors, players, and prize contributors. A special note of thanks to
Fred Musilli of Commerce Bank; Judy & Rich Nardella of Nardella, Inc.; The Philadel-
phia Regional Produce Market; United Savings Bank; and the LVYC support team. We
raised $9,000.00! Many thanks to all participants!

 05/30 Opening Day @ Marina

Opening Day with a 'Mardi Gras Theme' was a grand success with 52 members and
friends in attendance. Secretary Jack Carini opened the ceremonies with the introduction
of Officers and Board members. Special recognition was given to Vice Chairman/Found-
ing Board member Dick & Marita Walsh for their attendance and many years of support
 and friendship.

The Secretary and Commodore presented two prestiges awards to I/P/C Bill Morgen on
behalf of the Officers to honor his long term commitment and dedication in the founding
and continued growth of LVYC. It was a surprise. Many thanks.

Commodore Mehalick introduced Chaplain Nancy Cummings to give the opening prayer
and dedication to our Veterans. The prayer concluded with a floral wreath place on the
inter coastal waters. Our Vet's past and present are in our prayers. Thank you...

The festivities continued with an array of Mardi Gras decorations and costumes. New
Orleans dishes were prepared by Nancy Cummings and Russ Mehalick as a special
treat; members and friends (as usual) provided an assortment of 'specialty trays' to
 appease any appetite. Nancy Cummings won the 'First Prize' Award for 'Best Dish';
Russ Mehalick 'Second Prize', and a tie between Jack Carini and Tom Leaming for
'Third Prize'. Congrats to all for your great trays and participation.

06/19 BeachWheels - Long Beach Island

Many thanks to Russ, Karen; Bob & Nancy Cummings; Bob Powell & Brother; Chris &
Cele West for representing LVYC and assisting in this charitable event. BeachWheels.

 07/04 July 4th Celebration @ Marina

We had a small turnout for the 4th. Only 18 members in attendance; but it was a great
party. Plenty of food, drink, and friendship. The mood was somber with the sudden death
of Past Rear Commodore Mark Mehalick (age 44) on Friday. Funeral arrangements will
be announced by email within the next few days. Mark was a dedicated friend and one of
the founding members of LVYC. He will be missed.

 07/27 Commodore Raft-up & Picnic

 Cancelled because of weather.

08/07 Commodore Fluke Contest at BBCA Beach

Thirty four members entered the contest officiated by Commodore Russ Mehalick and
'The Crew of the Bounty'. First prize winner was David Clark (Lyle's Son) with a 7.76lb
fluke at 24.5"($180.00). Second prize winner was Bob Regan at 4.0lb, 21.5" ($120.00).
Third runner up was Paulie Kecmer. All three winners were awarded trophies+. A BBQ
followed with everyone in agreement "it was a great event"!

A grateful THANKS to the BBCA for the use of their pavilion and beach.

09/04 Labor Day BBQ+ at Marina

45 members attended. The menu was 'top shelf' and everyone left with a full belly and
some 'light headedness'. A note of thanks to F/C Tom & Marie Leaming for their kind
hospitality; Russ & Bob Powell for the set-ups and nautical decorations; Nancy & Bob
Cummings/Rita Morgen for all food preparations and cooking; and the ladies for their
exotic desserts (gained 10lbs). Special thanks to Carol DeMarco for the donated door
prizes, and Fred Musilli of Commerce Bank, PA.

09/18 Nancy & Joel Sevinsky by 'Land or Sea Party'

Members are cordially invited to the home of Nancy & Joel for a fun afternoon on the
water. This is a covered dish affair (BYOB)+. Flyers and emails have been sent to all
members. RSVP to Nancy by 9/12 at 609-242-9792.

*Thirty two members attended with a superb assortment of hot and cold dishes and varied
'beverages'. Unfortunately because of torrential rains and winds of 25-30 knots, we were
unable to sail in as initially planned. All in all, the decks were covered; and the Sevinsky
home was open for celebration. It was a grand party. Many THANKS to Nancy and Joe
for their kind hospitality, and to the members for their great dishes.

 10/10 Year End Dinner

Our YED was held at The Thirsty Mallard. Thirty three members attended to conclude
our seasons activities. The Morgen's hosted an outside cocktail party at their home prior
to the dinner; the grounds were beautifully decorated with halloween & fall decorations.
The bar was stocked with every conceivable bottle; with several exotic trays prepared by
by members. With the array of tasty foods, we could have forgone dinner.

Our dinner at The Thirsty Mallard (order from the menu) was superb! The tables were
beautifully decorated, managment provided wine, and the service was excellent. Many
thanks to our head server 'Robin' and the staff of the Mallard for another great job!

 A special note of of thanks to Jack & Katie Carini for donating four basket door prizes;
 Bob & Nancy Cummings for their enormous help and support; Lyle & Muriel Clark;
Walter & Shirley Lott; Joel & Nancy Sevinsky; Joe & Jean Walsh; Russ & Bob; and
the greatest wife of all, Rita, for putting up with my 'anal temperment' and making the
parties 'a GRAND' success! Many thanks to all.

Welcome ABOARD new members Tom & Sue Deptula and Bruce & Marion Paulson.
